Bob Eustace, 1925-2010

Bob Eustace was born on a houseboat in Stockton on August 22, 1925. During the Depression his family moved to San Francisco where, in 1942, he graduated from Mission High at the age of 16. In 1944 he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Suwannee, and saw combat in several battles within the Pacific Theater.

After the war Bob began a lifelong career working for Eastman Kodak. He returned to San Francisco, and joined the SFMC. He was active on the Competition Committee, and in 1949 won 1st place in the overall points for competition events. In December of 1950, just 25 years old, he was elected as our President for the year 1951. During his tenure the club hosted the A.M.A. 20-mile National at Bay Meadows, re-started the Civil Defense Committee (with Hap Jones as the Chairman), and partnered in events with the Lodi M.C., the Oakland M.C., the Hayward M.C., and the Richmond Ramblers M.C.

Bob passed away this last Sunday, January 31, 2010. We are grateful to have been a part of his life, offer our condolences to his family and friends, and will keep him in our thoughts.

Support the Team Wild West Rally Dos Sertões team!

Rally Dos Sertõs is the second biggest rally race in the world, just behind the Paris Dakar. Our very own Bicycle Phil Bowman is racing this year, and we're trying to raise some money to get him and the whole Team Wild West down to Brazil.

We'll be having a fundraiser at the clubhouse a bit later in the year, but in the meantime, buy a team t-shirt here to show your support.

These guys do it for the love of racing, and we're proud to support them!
